Killing Floor + Full Metal Alchemist + Black Mages

Since i don't really have anything interesting to talk about, i'll periodically post up reviews of selected media.

Today's pick on Games:

Killing Floor

Title: Killing Floor
Genres: 3D-Action/Co-op Survival Horror FPS
Language: English
Year: 2009
Developer: Tripwire Interactive
Publisher: Tripwire Interactive
File size: 1.73 GB

About The Game : A horrific secret experiment has gone awry and released uncountable hordes of mutants and zombies into streets and countryside of London. Take the role of one of six characters that will take up arms and sweep the country clean of these creatures.

Features:
-Cooperative gameplay for up to six players against multiple waves of specimens
-Persistent Perks system, allowing players to convert their in-game achievements into permanent improvements to their character's skills and abilities
-Over 40 Steam Achievements, including "Dignity for the dead" for killing 10 enemies feeding on dead teammates' corpses and "Hot Cross Fun" for finishing off 25 burning enemies with a Crossbow
-Slow-motion "ZEDtime" to better watch those crucial and violent creature deaths, even in multiplayer
Solo game mode for offline play
-Nine different monster types trying to eat your face off, armed with everything from teeth and claws, to chainsaws, chain-guns and rocket-launchers
-12 + Weapons for the players to chose from, ranging from knives and fire-axes to pump shotguns, rifles and a flamethrower
-Equip your team with welders, medical tools and body armor to help your odds of survival
-Choose which Perks to play with to best balance out your co-op team against the horrors
-Open, non-linear play areas: choose when and where to fight - or run; weld doors closed to direct the monster horde down alternate corridors
-Fully-configurable, allowing players to change the difficulty level, number of creature waves, or even set up their own favorite waves of monsters
-Support for Steam Friends and other Steamworks features
-Includes SDK for the creation of new levels and mods

Minimum System Requirements:
System: Windows 2000/XP/Vista
Processor: 1.2 GHZ
Memory: 512 MB
Video Card: 64 MB DirectX 9 compatible video card
Audio card: DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card

My Personal Review: While this game lacks the story setting and playable zombies of its Left4Dead counterpart, it also contains many other elements which Left4Dead lacks, namely the Perks system, Slow-Mo, Non-stop Zombie Rush, and the variety of weapons that Killing Floor features. It also comes together with a KF Editor which allows modders to create their own maps, thus allowing the KF Map arsenal to expand limitlessly. Also, addition plugins to the game can allow players to make changes to the game(such as increased players, extra weapons, etc). Now, if only the game is based off Valve's graphic engine and fixes some of the bugs still inherent in the game, i would provide this game with a 5-star rating.

Today's pick on Anime:

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood

Now do note that this 2nd season of the original anime is NOT the continuation of the first season. It simply is "reportraying" the anime in another style as well maintaining the original manga storyline, unlike its predecessor which deviated halfway through the first season. Now note also that i never really rated FMA very high in my list of animes, but i have to admit that the 2nd season has made huge improvements in making it more enjoyable compared to the first. There are slightly more comical scenes as well as better graphical action, and a plus point for me is that it's probably not as draggy as the first. However, that being said, neither is it, IMHO, on par with its popular counterparts such as Code Geass, Full Metal Panic or even Ouran High School Host Club. It somehow still lacks that kind of "tension" and "addictiveness" which makes me want to rush on ahead to the next episode. However, it's still an enjoyable series, therefore i rate it a 7 out of 10.

Today's pick on Soundtracks:

The Black Mages

To start off my first audio soundtrack recommendations, i shall begin with my very own favourite composer's band! All hail The Black Mages!

In case you don't know who i'm talking about, he is Nobuo Uematsu!

He is the veteran music composers for the majority of the soundtracks for Final Fantasy and many of the other games published by Japan's most famouse RPG company, Square Enix. Having left the company a few years back, he has since started his own rock band, The Black Mages, and true to his vocation, the band only caters to his original fanbase by featuring only his original compositions for his games(so far only featuring songs from the Final Fantasy series). The only difference here is that ALL his compositions are now in ROCK MODE! COOOOOOL.

Track #5 is my favourite pick in this album, and i've uploaded it into Soundboard.com for your sampling and enjoyment:

(OK SCREW THIS, I'm having problems uploading to Soundboard, so i will edit this part again when i fix it)

(OK i managed to find another audio sharing site and uploaded it, so here you go)

Note that all posted music can be accessed at the player on the top of this blog. =)

Ok, a general summary of what happened today:
1) Woke up at around 10 and started watching anime. =P
2) Went out for lunch with mom at Euro Deli. She always picks the WORST time to go there as i always don't have the right appetite for it at that moment.
3) Had vocal class at 2pm. I THINK i'm getting better but i can't seem to be able to apply what i learnt when i'm singing outside of my teacher's influence.
4) Dota'd with idiot Justin as soon as i got home.
5) Went out with the Mushroom for dinner.
6) Proceeded straight for Chamber rehearsal at 7:30pm.

All in all another uneventful day.
